Scenes From Our Travels

Francis Price, Jr. M.D. and his wife, Marianne, are pioneers in vision research and sought-after speakers in their field.  Their speaking engagements and attendance at international eye conferences have allowed them to visit places on the planet that most of us only dream of seeing.  Their passion for giving people back the use of their eyes has served to deepen their appreciation of Nature’s beauty as they travel worldwide to share their research findings.

The photos in this “web album” are an expression of their joy in being able to help others see the wonderful world that we all share.

A passion for saving sight… a lifetime of dedicated service to others’ vision…a commitment to making a difference - these values are reflected in the images that they have photographed and now share with visitors to the Cornea Research Foundation website.  Please enjoy this armchair tour of some of the earth’s most marvelous and unique places as our guests…

Buddhist Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal
1. At this Buddhist Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, colorful prayer flags send prayers to bless the surrounding countryside, or for other purposes, as they move in the breeze. Such flags come in sets of five, one in each of five colors: blue, white, red, yellow, and green which represent the elements.
Ecuador Street Vendor
2. This lovely young street vendor is selling roasted pig in the city of San Francisco de Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. A popular street food in mountain regions is hornado consisting of potatoes served with roasted pig. This heavily populated city, with over 1 million people, is surrounded by volcanoes, some of which are active. Ecuador also contains the Gallapagos Islands which attract visitors from around the globe.
Dr. Price Receiving Blessing
3. On a trip to India where Dr. Price performed surgery and training for doctors, the Prices visited Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges River. At the request of a local ophthalmologist, Dr. Abishek Chandra who is shown on the left, Dr. Price received a Hindu blessing. Varanasi is regarded as holy by Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains, and is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world.
A couple enjoying the sun in Italy
4. Amalfi is a town in the province of Salerno, in the region of Campania, Italy, on the Gulf of Salerno, southeast of Naples. It lies at the mouth of a deep ravine, at the foot of Monte Cerreto, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery. The town of Amalfi is a wonderful destination enjoyed by tourists each year. In this scene, a couple relaxes on the narrow beach of a small fishing village on the Amalfi coast.
Sun streaming through the Pantheon in Italy
5. The Roman Pantheon is the largest un-reinforced solid concrete dome in the world, and the most complete Roman monument. Here we see the sun shining through the oculus, a 7.8 meter hole in the top of the dome, that allows light to enter the structure.
Kilauea Lighthouse
6. This sweeping view of the Hawaiian Island, Kauai, was taken from its famous Lighthouse. Kilauea Lighthouse began lighting the way for mariners in 1913. It served as a pivotal navigation aid for ships sailing on the Orient run. Today, it is one of Kauai's best loved places with more than 500,000 annual visitors. Time and the harsh tropic marine environment have taken their toll on these historic buildings and a restoration project is now underway to save the lighthouse from further decay.
Wildflowers
7. This view is of the slopes of Mt. Rainier, the highest mountain in Washington and the Cascade Range, was taken in August. The mountain and the surrounding area are protected within Mount Rainier National Park. With 26 major glaciers and 35 square miles of permanent snowfields and glaciers, Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states.
South Island of New Zealand
8. The South Island of New Zealand is breathtakingly beautiful. While it is somewhat larger than the North Island, only about a quarter of New Zealand's four million inhabitants live in the South Island.

10. Quetico Provincial Park is a large wilderness park in northwestern Ontario, Canada, renowned for its excellent canoeing and fishing. This 1.18 million acre park shares its southern border with Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, part of the larger Superior National Forest. These large wilderness parks are often collectively referred to as the Boundary Waters and we have enjoyed taking a family vacation in this area for years.

Taj Mahal
13. The Taj Mahal in Agra, India, is a fabulous mausoleum built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The white marble seems to glow as it absorbs and reflects the sunlight. Construction began in 1623, and over 1,000 elephants helped transport the building materials. It took 12 years to complete this magnificent tribute
