I Am CRFA...Are You CRFA?
I AM CRFA

Name: Vera Patricia Cox
Role: Most people know me as Patty, and I am a patient of Dr. Francis W. Price, Jr. the Founder of CRFA, and a donor.
Why I donate to CRFA:
I started seeing Dr. Price when he first began his private practice and he has provided many vision services for me and my family over the years.
My husband and I both had cataract surgery, and my daughter-in-law and one of my granddaughters (now also a doctor) both had LASIK surgery.
When he suspected that I had retinitis pigmentosa, he sent me to a retinal specialist to be certain. He and his staff have looked after
me ever since. Although at this point there is no “cure” for my condition, I feel as if they have “kept me going” and I am comforted and encouraged by their continuing care of my eyes.
I donate to the Foundation because I know firsthand the importance of the research being done by Dr. Price and his team. My contributions are certainly not large, but I love helping those who have helped me so much.
Why I love CRFA:
Dr. Price has been important to me and my family both professionally and personally. One of the things I have appreciated is how he has seen me through so many problems I have had with my vision. I feel as if he has watched over me with a kind and caring manner; he and his wife, Marianne, are very special to me.
My name is Patty Cox and “I Am CRFA.”

Spotlight and Viewpoints

Name: Jerry Semler
Work: Chairman Emeritus of American United Mutual Insurance Holding Company, parent of One America Financial Partners, Inc.
Role: Board member, since 2004
Why I joined the CRFA Board:
I joined the Board because I have continually been impressed with the mission, skills and passion that Dr. Price and his team have for giving people back the use of their eyes. Over the years, I have seen the impact of the Foundation’s research and training of doctors who come to Indianapolis from all over the world. And I believe that the research studies conducted each year to help advance, or refine, the ability of opthalmologists to help people regain their eyesight through cornea transplant. The Foundation’s team demonstrates outstanding scientific leadership and global outreach but they are also down to earth, and I enjoy our interactions.
Why I Love CRFA:
Several things keep me involved with CRFA. Recognizing that the Foundation helps people regain their sight, in some cases after years of lonely darkness, brings an inner satisfaction that is hard to describe. It’s humbling and inspiring. I enjoy sharing with other Board members, knowing that I am contributing to a great mission and a great group of people. Lastly, there are many good charities in our city, and the Foundation takes its place among them as an innovative nonprofit that has earned our gratitude for the difference they are making each and every day.
