A Partial List of Services available in Indiana for the visually impaired:
http://www.wfyi.org/iris  This is the website of Indiana Reading and Information Services, a not for profit communications link provided by WFYI as a service for the blind and others who are unable to read conventional print material.  Offering a 24-hour service, IRIS broadcasts with volunteers reading local and national newspapers, magazines, Great Books, weekly retail and grocery advertising, and other material for all age groups.  To request IRIS services, or to volunteer as a reader, phone (317) 715-2004 or toll-free, (877) 854-0077.

http://www.bosma.org  This is the website of Bosma Enterprises, a non profit providing services that meet a broad spectrum of needs for the blind and visually impaired.  Services include rehabilitation, job training, and employment opportunities by providing a seamless transition, such as Vocational Assessments, community employment placement, student training and employment; senior program. Bosma Enterprises is offering a mobile training unit, Vision Venture, which will provide in-home assessments and training for people who are adapting to vision loss. The services are free and made available through private philanthropy, plus the federal Family and Social Services Administration.

Can you recommend a cornea transplant surgeon in my city?

We are not able to provide referrals because we don’t have the resources necessary to keep track of the techniques various surgeons are using, how many procedures they have performed, or their surgical outcomes.

Does the Foundation offer financial assistance, such as grants or cash awards?
  • No, the Foundation is itself a 501 c (3) that seeks funds for research studies. It is outside the mission of the Foundation to provide financial assistance or award grants at this time.
  • We are the fiscal sponsor for a young nonprofit, Working Vision, that is helping to reduce the number of workplace eye injuries in the developing nation of Nepal.  For more information, visit http://www.workingvision.org

We do not provide referrals to individual doctors, but the website below may be helpful in finding a doctor in your region:  Doctors without Borders - http://www.doctorswithoutborders.com.

You may also wish to locate resources by going to Google and entering the name of your country and the phrase “vision care.”  The Internet provides information, and resources such as the names of hospitals, medical associations in regions, and physicians and specialists.
